Lichfield District Local Plan Scoping Consultation

Lichfield District Council is preparing a new Local Plan for the district which will cover the period from 2026 to 2046.

The first stage of the plan preparation process is to undertake a consultation on the scope of the new local plan in accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026 – Part 4, Regulation 20.

They want to know your views on the following:

• Scoping Consultation document – what content to include in the new Local Plan.
• Draft Engagement Strategy – how we engage with you on the Local Plan.

The consultation will run for 4 weeks from 7th September 2026 – 5pm 5th October 2026

Call for sites form – we are also inviting you to suggest land for future development. More details are provided at the end of this letter.

Call for sites

The new Local Plan will allocate sites to meet development needs. We are inviting submissions of land which may be suitable for uses such as housing (at least 5 homes), Gypsy and Traveller sites, employment, retail, sports, community or other uses. We are particularly keen to hear about brownfield (previously developed) land and you can suggest these sites even if you are not the landowner as the Council will investigate further. However, submission of a site does not guarantee that it will be selected for development through the Local Plan.

Even if you have submitted the site previously, the new online form must be filled in for the site to be considered. The call for sites will be open for a longer period to allow more time to prepare submissions from 7th September to 30th November 2026.
